Yes or No

So, I forgot to ask this in my post last night. Does anyone else do black eyed peas for New Years Day? I grew up with that tradition, going to my Grandma's having black eyed peas, cornbread and fried potatoes. Ummmm Ummmm GOOD! I love them and fix them often. My guys are not too crazy about them, I could eat them every day. My husband never heard of such thing, I couldn't believe EVERYONE didn't do my tradition!!! Nothing better than a nice bowl of peas and watching the Rose Bowl parade..another thing my boys really dislike! Oh well.
Just curious what other traditions are, or if my State Line upbringing was the only one that involved Black Eyed Peas!!!

We have black eyed peas on New Year's - but no one else around here has any idea what they are. I usually fix fried ham with them, I love them. As a kid growing up in Idaho - I can't ever remember eating them, DH's family ate them all the time in Texas.

YES!!!! My mom's family is VERY BIG on the black eyed peas tradition for New Year's Day! My mom always makes a big New Years lunch and I really like them :)

Have a Happy New Year & eat lots of your black eyed peas for a blessed 2009!

Oh yeah, we love 'em! Brandon's dad usually grows them every year so we have some in the freezer for New Years. Not this year though! We have to buy 'em :) But we love them cooked long and slow with some bacon or ham. And cornbread and fried taters sounds excellent!!!

Oh my! Of course we do! We always have to have black eyed peas, cabbage, ham and cornbread. Hubby swears we will have bad luck if we don't! We were both raised doing it!

have a happy new year!

Yep we love the little buggers. I usually grow them in my garden, fresh ones are so wonderful, I like the snaps.

I am a multi-generational Texan, although misplaced at the moment, ha. I think it is a cultural thing for sure.

FYI, there was an interesting blackeyed pea dip on recipezarr....it sounded interesting. I am thinking of trying it...but it kinda scares me. Some things just should not be made into a dip!

Yes, black eyed peas. But then again, we are from the same people. Down here collards for cash, black eyed peas for change. I heard once rice for luck. I never do collards but this year I am making a BIG BUNCH OF GREENS!!! I think we are going to have fried chicken, collard casserole, and southern caviar (black eyed pea salsa). I have a recipe for black eyed pea dip if you are interested.

No black eyed peas here...I think we are too far north for that!!! Lobster tail and steak on New Year's Eve!!

Happy New Year to you and your family!

Yes Maam!! We do but I didn't this year. When my kids were little they had to eat at least one pea. What a ruckus that caused!! I love the little rascals -give me a bushel!!

I came over from Farmchick's blog...and had to laugh about the black eyed peas...oh, yeah. Big tradition with my parents, both of whom were born and raised in Texas. Never missed having them on any New Year's Day while growing up. My husband (a so. Cal. guy) never heard of such a thing! Haha.
