Rain, Rain Go Away

We are really getting a lot of rain. That peaceful sound tapping on my roof is wonderful. It also makes me want to be at home, baking, taking a nap, reading and doing domestic things! What is it about rain and/or snow that makes a person want to cook something wonderful? Does anyone else have this problem? I'm curious to see what everyone else loves to cook, I'm asking that anyone that reads this to please list 1-2 things that you love to cook. Be prepared...you may be asked to share the recipe! I'm in somewhat of a cooking "rut" so I'm open to new recipes. I made something new last night that JB and I really liked...my boys thought it was awful. Whatever. I'll share it later. Gotta run now. Can't wait to see what everyone else loves to cook!!!

Home made potato soup and chili topped with frito chips, sour cream, and shredded cheddar cheese! I can bake sweets on a 110 degree day so the soups and stews are my thing come winter. Of course . . . my family struggles a little but always end up eating whatever I make as long as I have a big fluffy dinner roll to go with it!

We are doing the backstroke here! Love ya!

Mmm, on rainy days I like to bake anything sweet. But sometimes I just think I like sweet things, as I can bake them any time of the year. Cinnamon rolls, and hearty muffins. I've been wanting to try some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins On cold days I love soups! I have a favorite Bavarian pork tenderloin stew that I can't wait to start making again. My hubby doesn't like soups/stews unless it's COLD out. ;) Of course chili w/ sour cream on top, tortilla soup, and broccoli cheese soup is a favorite. Ooh, if you like crock pots, I did run across this idea the other day that sounded good! It's a little elementary, but I'm down with that. ;)

------
You put 6 potatoes sliced or wedged in the crock pot (I'm going to try red, and leave the skins on) and sprinkle with garlic salt. Over the top you add this mixture:

Ground beef and onions that have been browned, a can of nacho cheese soup, a cup of milk, and a 4 oz can of chilies.

When you eat it you are supposed to top it with sour cream, cheddar cheese, green onions or salsa.

Cook for 7-8 hours on low. Serves 4-5.
---------

I thought it sounded good, for being so simple! It also looks pretty easy to adapt to your tastes.

Anyway, I'm hungry now!!! Gonna go eat some breakfast. Have a wondermous Tuesday!

I love to cook chicken and noodles, which I did last night, with homemade mashed potatoes and warm rolls. I also think this is the perfect weather for chili and crackers. I'm hoping this rain goes away soon too. I need some sunshine! Have a great day....

If I wasn't pregnant, I could say green chili stew. But since it hasn't been my friend, I'll just say Taco Soup. Its still my friend! Also, homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Well, that was what I was wanting to cook yesterday anyway! We had a rainy, cold day as well.
Taco Soup
Hambuger meat
a can-
corn
ranch style beans
pinto beans
diced tomatoes
rotel

Brown your meat, season with a taco seasoning. Throw everything in the crockpot, and the longer it cooks the better it gets!

I don't do stew in the summer. But I love it in the winter. I didn't used to be much of a stew kind of person but I love having a big pot full simmering on the back of the stove when it is cold. Green Chili is my most favorite.

I also love the smell of bread baking...which I bake all year..but in the winter its the best.

Hum anything with cinnamon...love cinnamon rolls. And love pumpkin..anything pie, cake, pudding. Did I mention cookies?

Blessings

Homemade chicken and dumplin's! It's my Gramma Ella's recipe and they are wonderful!
2nd choice would be - beef stew or cheeseburger soup!

I was in a huge cooking rut until Justin bought me the Everyday With Rachael Ray magazine. Not sure if he was being nice or if it was a hint but I love it. And her recipes for the most part are easy & cheap. Not a fan of RR until the magazine. I make a mexican chicken soup that is a lot like Rnachgirl's taco soup. But mine is with chicken, chicken broth, no hamburger and you can add whatever you have- corn, rice, orzo, beans, etc. Always chili, made some yesterday. That chocolate pie that I blogged about. Tomorrow we are having asian chicken & green beans:

boil your fresh/ frozen green beans for 3 mins, set aside

saute chicken in oil with onion

mix 3 Tbsp honey, 3 TBSP soy sauce, 3 Tbsp spicy mustard, 1 Tbsp hot sauce ( I use Louisiana Hot Sauce)

after chicken is cooked (golden brown)add green beans to chicken & oil, pour sauce over, cook few more minutes. Serve with rice. Last time I tossed angel hair pasta in instead of rice for a lo mein type idea. I add green pepper, mushrooms again whatever.

I love green chili stew as well...my boys aren't so fond of it. Imagine that, my kids don't care for something I like. Surprise Surprise Surprise!
