Longhorn Sale

That is how I spent my weekend...and part of last week.
Every year for the last 17 years the Midwest Longhorn Sale is hosted at our sale barn.
One of our customers is actually the host and the sale is held here.
It brings a lot of people to my town and it always promises to be interesting!
I did get a small window of opportunity on Friday evening to run out and snap a few pics.
The babies are my favorite~they are soooooo cute!

Love her black nose~it's like she has been playing in the makeup! lol

Love the markings on this lady.

This little red nosed cutie getting ready to have some supper!

This little guy was just tuckered out~sleeping with its mouth open!

This lady was not so impressed with my camera and was not overly happy I wanted to get in close.

My ABSOLUTE favorite.  This baby had the neatest markings of any.
Looked so sweet sleeping away!

Well.  Gotta run, hope you are having a good Monday!

The Big One

Saturday morning.  Instead of doing laundry and cleaning house I chose to join the menfolk in my family and go fishin.  I'm so glad I did.  It turned out to be a beautiful day and good fishin!

We drove several of these roads to many different ponds.

It's so beautiful~this ranch belongs to my father in laws cousin.
It's about 15 miles east of where I live.
We are very blessed to have tall grass and full ponds.
This is the same ranch we send our cattle to grass on.

CB throwing out the first cast...reeled in a little bass.

ZB threw in and reeled in a BIG bass!

One of the pastures we went to had this big draft horse and a couple of donkeys with the cattle.
This big guy was very curious...he was checking out the tackle box.

These two were coming close quick, hard to click a picture!

Really love seeing the ponds and pasture land.

The guys cleaning all the fish

My BIG catch!  This is the biggest bass I've ever caught.
We caught about 4 this size and several a little smaller.
Good day!

 Beautiful wildflowers.

Recipe for the Weekend

My cousin shared this with me years ago...and I have not used store bought sauce since.  It's very easy, quick to make and I always have everything on hand!

Enchilada Sauce

In sauce pan, heat 2 Tbsp of canola oil(I have used vegetable too), 2 Tbsp flour, 2 Tbsp chili powder and make a roux.

Add
1 tsp. cumin
1 14 oz can chicken broth
1 8oz can tomato sauce
1 tsp salt
2 cloves of garlic(sometimes I use 1-2 tsp of garlic powder)

Mix all ingredients well, bring to boil and then turn down to simmer for about 15 mins.
That's it!  Enjoy.

Resurrection Celebration

I don't know about anyone else...but the weather here in the Sunflower State wasGORGEOUS on Sunday!

Perfect day to get together with family and friends and celebrate our Risen Savior!

Dad. Doing pretty good~he is 6 weeks post knee replacement and was happy to be on the tractor

Dad gave us the annual hayrack ride to the pond to skip rocks, run around and have fun.

CB and cousin Piper.  They are 3 months apart in age and are good buddies.
They both love basketball and have so much fun together.

Good Friday?

I have been thinking all day about what today Really means/represents.  I was reading this morning in the gospels about today.  Good Friday.  The day that Jesus was  accused, beaten, spat upon, mistreated, spoken to in such a manner that is unacceptable and THEN made to carry his own cross to the place where he would be crucified.  I wondered....What is GOOD about any of that?
I'm certain that his followers were devastated...even though he had told them what would come.  I don't really know exactly how today came to be Good Friday~but Praise the Lord I know the end of the story.  He Is Risen!  Hallelujah!  May you and your family have a wonderful weekend and I pray that you celebrate the Risen Savior!

Beautiful & Productive

That was my Saturday.
A great way to end the month of March.
With a sunburn of course.
Pretty strange.  We are not normally this warm this time of year.
It feels more like May.

I started off my morning(after breakfast) dragging out my potting stuff.  My sweet little seedlings I planted several weeks ago are doing good, but I thought I would graduate them to a larger pot from the egg carton.

Here they are, waiting for me to get organized.  That was a task.
Had stuff in several places~had not yet put it all in ONE spot since the move last year.

I always save my plastic pots and re-use them.  I often think.."will I NEED all of these?"
Yes.  I will and I won't question myself again.

This took several hours and by then the guys had showed up from doing chores and had the nerve to ask me..."what's for dinner?"  ha ha
I got everything back into the house to my card table.  I have my own greenhouse set up in my UNFINISHED front room that is still UNFINISHED.  But I'm not bitter.  I have always wanted a greenhouse. {grin}

I decided to get out some of my old pots and clean them up.  I had spray paint that needed to be used.

This looks so much better.  I put a little Christmas plant/tree thing in here.  Forgot to get the after/after shot.

And then......

there is this little "jewel"  or at least to me it is.
I had almost forgotten that I had this.  Another treasure from an auction where I'm certain my husband did NOT want to take my bid.  That's how it works in our house.  I love junk.  We sometimes sell junk at farm sales.  My husband auctioneers and I bid on junk and he pretends to not see me.  But...then my f-i-l saves the day and Takes my bid!  Then my husband laughs and moves on.  It's fun.

Then I get my opportunity to transform
Trash to Treasure!

See here????  I did it.  I just love this little can.  I'm not exactly sure what will become of this, but I'm thinking a vase for sunflowers, lilacs, daisies...on my kitchen table.  I'll let you know.

The butterflies were THICK at my house yesterday.  Along with bumblebees and all sorts of other flying insects.  This tree in the front of our house is blooming out something...Don't know, it was already done last year when we moved in.

Butterflies AMAZE me.  Only GOD could make something like them.

ZB was cleaning out the pickup...we hauled a lot of dirt in yesterday.

We put in this little garden shed to move a lot of our "stuff" out of the garage.  Couldn't even park in there.  We had a shed at our old house and we missed it...ALOT.
Anyway...had to put a "base" around the new shed~our lovely Mutt dog Angel has done her very Best to dig giant holes underneath...chasing critters.  So we sealed it off.  That was where I got my sunburn.

And that my friends was my Beautiful and Productive Saturday.  I slept like a baby last night.

I'm off to get around for church.  May your first Sunday in April 2012 be a great one!
